Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland The SMI is closely associated, through the involvement of its members, with the Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland (EMIR). Under the General Editorship of Professor Barra Boydell (NUI Maynooth) and Professor Harry White (University College Dublin and former President of the SMI), EMIR is the most comprehensive publication on music ever to have been undertaken in Ireland. The Executive Editor of EMIR is Dr Mark Fitzgerald. Based originally at NUI Maynooth and subsequently at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, and scheduled for publication by UCD Press in the near future, EMIR has received support from Atlantic Philanthropies, the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. EMIR will include over 2500 articles embracing a wide range of thematic and subject topics and reflecting Ireland's musical culture in all its breadth and depth both in the past and today. The Subject Editors for EMIR are Prof. Barra Boydell, Dr Ann Buckley, Dr Gareth Cox, Prof. Gerard Gillen, Dr Kerry Houston, Dr Maria McHale, Dr Mel Mercier, Dr Michael Murphy, Dr Méabh Ní Fhuartháin, and Dr Adrian Scahill.
