Public Musicology Podcast
Interview with Dr Orla Flanagan (TCD)
Orla Flanagan is a musicologist whose art impacts Irish academia and the wider Dublin community. In this episode of the Irish public musicology coffee podcast Offbeat, Karishmeh Felfeli-Crawford (of BBC Radio 3, RTE Radio 1, CBC Radio 2 and Dublin City FM fame) examines Flanagan’s quiet brand of practice-based musicology, which draws equal inspiration from the undergraduate music students of Trinity College Dublin and from the Dublin-based choir, the Mornington Singers. On the surface, this is a simple Q and A conversation, about Orla Flanagan’s life and work in Ireland thus far. Flanagan’s coffee biography, however, allows us to gain wider appreciation for musicologists like her, for whom the disciplined study of music facilitates a range of professional activities - lecturing, choral conducting, historical research, publishing - all delivered to the highest scholarly standards, with grace and modesty.
