The SMI's 13th annual postgraduate students' conference was held as a joint event with the Irish National Committee of the International Council for Traditional Music. It took place on 17-18 January 2020, hosted by the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick.
The keynote address was given by Professor Philip Bohlman (University of Chicago): "Lifted Up from the Earth at the Very Moment of Death": The Border, the Wall, and the Musical Topography of Migration Crisis. The conference also included another in the SMI's series of careers forums for postgraduate students, focusing on career planning and opportunities beyond the doctorate.
